The public beta of DaVinci Resolve<\/a> 12.5, Blackmagic Design’<\/a>s color correction system, was unveiled at the highly anticipated NAB.<\/p>\n

New features include a number of new editing functions, improvements to the node editor, new tools and effects, as well as expanded support for HDR work.<\/p>\n

Editing and media management<\/h4>\n

Let’s start with the editing module, where we will find more modes, seven new operations for trimming, inserts, or overlay and append editing.<\/p>\n

Added the ability to overlay an audio waveform over the source viewer<\/em> image for use as a visual reference when navigating.<\/p>\n

In addition, the new Cinema Viewer<\/em> facilitates full-screen viewing for users who use laptops or only have one screen.<\/p>\n

Media management has also been improved, for example with the keyword dictionary, which allows common or already used words to be attached to clips. In addition, display names can be generated automatically based on clip metadata and tags. <\/p>\n

CSV file support has been included for metadata import and export.<\/p>\n

One of the most important new features are the Power Bins<\/em>, which are now available in the Media Pool<\/em> and are designed to share content such as graphics, archive material, sound effects or music across multiple projects.<\/p>\n

We will also see that in the Media Pool<\/em> it is possible to customize and save columns, as well as assign colors to certain clips, or add markers that can be single-frame or durational.<\/p>\n

Speed and ramp effects have been redesigned with separate curves for frame position and playback speed. Multiple keyframes can be selected and moved at once using the new visual controls. <\/p>\n

Color<\/h4>\n

On the color side, the node editor has been updated to make it easier to navigate between nodes, change nodes and make a selection of several with a lasso. Saved corrections can be dragged into a single composite node or as a complete structure. <\/p>\n

There is a new single-point tracker, sliders for temperature and tint as part of the primary controls and more XRite Colorchecker<\/em> charts supported in the Color Match<\/em> palette.<\/p>\n

Also added is ResolveFX<\/em>, a set of native GPU- and CPU-accelerated effects for everything from color space and gamma transformations to film grain and lens blur.<\/p>\n

There is also a new multi-GPU algorithm for noise reduction.<\/p>\n

HDR enhancements include the ability to configure specific nodes as HDR, which activates the extended dynamic range tools in Resolve (Studio).<\/p>\n

Export<\/h4>\n

The Deliver page has been completely redesigned to easily find presets, customize render settings and organize Jobs. Presets are available for export to Premiere Pro, ProTools, Avid, Final Cut Pro, Vimeo, Youtube and more. <\/p>\n

In addition, audio can be exported independently of video (as single or multiple channels) and clips can be exported with alpha channel using codecs such as ProRes 4444, ProRes 4444 XQ and uncompressed RGBA.<\/p>\n
