Blackmagic Design<\/a> also unveiled its new products at NAB, including DaVinci Resolve 12<\/a>, the latest version of its award-winning color correction system.<\/p>\n

First and foremost is the revamped interface, with new fonts and a lighter color scheme that help reduce eyestrain. The new way of navigating speeds up selections and provides greater flexibility to customize the workspace. <\/p>\n

Color news<\/h4>\n

As far as color is concerned, there are not too many new features, but there are some important ones, such as support for ACES 1.0. The basic tools have been improved with an easier curves interface, color analysis, automatic matting and the new 3D keyer and 3D perspective tracker. <\/p>\n

Users will be able to join multiple nodes to form composite nodes, stretch corrections across multiple clips and define their own smart filters.<\/p>\n

Editing functions<\/h4>\n

Another highlight is realtime multi-camera editing. Blackmagic continues to focus on making DaVinci capable of doing all of your post production without having to go through other software. Now, you can synchronize multiple camera angles based on timecode, audio waveforms or using classic in and out points. Once synchronized, they will be displayed in the “source” monitor, within a grid where you can view them all while cutting the video and\/or audio. <\/p>\n

In addition, other existing editing functions have been improved, such as all trim, multi-slip, slide, ripple and roll modes. Its functions have been extended to allow you to select multiple points for dynamic and asymmetrical trimming, even with clips on the same track. <\/p>\n

\"resolve-edit\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Timelines can now be nested and edited together, as well as re-collapsed at any time as needed.<\/p>\n

There are also new transition curves that allow further customization and new on-screen controls for adjusting motion parameters.<\/p>\n

New audio engine<\/h4>\n

DaVinci 12 comes with an all-new high-performance audio engine that offers louder samples and improved playback, including backward playback and slow motion style of tapes during trimming with JKL.<\/p>\n

Support for VST and AU plug-ins, along with their own interfaces, has been included for use on individual clips or entire tracks.<\/p>\n

Thanks to this update it will be possible to export projects from ProTools<\/a> to DaVinci via an AAF.<\/p>\n

Media management tools<\/h4>\n

In order to further improve editing workflows, new tools for copying, moving, transcoding, relinking and consolidating have been added. This makes archiving and restoring entire projects very easy. <\/p>\n

Another advance will be found in media search, as intelligent bins can be created that display material based on metadata tags.<\/p>\n

For importing you can simply drag and drop files or use the new “Favorites”, which gives access to the most used folders on a disk.<\/p>\n

Other new developments<\/h4>\n

DaVinci 12 supports remote rendering and can distribute render jobs to other Resolve systems that are on the same database and have shared storage.<\/p>\n

Integration with Final Cut Pro X<\/a> has been improved with multicam and audio implementations. Now, when importing XML, multi-camera clips are also imported and the original angles are preserved. Adjustments made in the audio timeline will also be maintained. <\/p>\n
