{"id":56712,"date":"2013-12-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-12-11T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/canon-luts-for-the-c100-c300-and-c500\/"},"modified":"2025-05-04T23:25:13","modified_gmt":"2025-05-04T21:25:13","slug":"canon-luts-for-the-c100-c300-and-c500","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/en\/canon-luts-for-the-c100-c300-and-c500\/","title":{"rendered":"Canon LUTs for the C100, C300 and C500"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canon<\/a> website there are LUTs (Look Up Tables) available to switch from the Canon Log from <a href=\"http:\/\/cinemaeos.usa.canon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cinema EOS<\/a> cameras to Rec709 or Cineon.<\/p>\n<p>They were originally released with only the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canon.es\/For_Home\/Product_Finder\/Digital_Cinema\/Cinema_EOS_Cameras\/EOS_C300\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">C300<\/a> in mind, but were later upgraded to work with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canon.es\/For_Home\/Product_Finder\/Digital_Cinema\/Cinema_EOS_Cameras\/EOS_C100\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">C100<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canon.es\/For_Home\/Product_Finder\/Digital_Cinema\/Cinema_EOS_Cameras\/EOS_C500\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">C500<\/a>. They are designed to work with the extended &#8220;full range&#8221; color space of the C500&#8217;s Raw mode and are stored in a 10-bit CSV (Comma Separated Value) format. <\/p>\n<p>The problem is that there are many color correction tools that cannot read Canon LUTs directly, because they do not have the properties of 3D LUTs. Also, there are times when it is necessary to apply them in &#8220;legal&#8221;, instead of &#8220;full range&#8221; for TV broadcasts. <\/p>\n<p>Therefore, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abelcine.com\/store\/home.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AbelCine<\/a> has decided to keep things simple and have released a modified collection of these original Canon LUTs, all of them with legal and extended versions.<\/p>\n<p>The three packages available are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>CxxxLog10toCineon<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log to Cineon Conversion (Canon original)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CxxxLog10toRec709_Full<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log a Rec709 &#8220;full range&#8221; (original Canon)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CxxxLog10toRec709_Legal<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log to Rec709 &#8220;legal&#8221; (AbelCine conversion)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CxxxLog10WideDR_Full<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log a Wide Dynaminc Range &#8220;full range&#8221; (original from Canon)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CxxxLog010toWideDR_Legal<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log to Wide Dynamic Range &#8220;legal&#8221; (AbelCine conversion)<\/p>\n<p>They have also created some LUTs based on the &#8220;scene files&#8221; for reference:<\/p>\n<p><strong>JR45_CxxxLog10toRec709_Full<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log to Rec709 &#8220;full range&#8221; with profile JR45 Cine added<\/p>\n<p><strong>JR45_CxxxLog10toRec709_Legal<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log to Rec709 &#8220;legal&#8221; with added profile JR45Cine<\/p>\n<p><strong>JR45_CxxxLog10toWideDR_Full<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log to WideDR &#8220;full range&#8221; with added JR45Cine profile<\/p>\n<p><strong>JR45_CxxxLog10toWideDR_Legal<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log to WideDR &#8220;legal&#8221; with added profile JR45Cine<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABNorm_CxxxLog10toRec709_Full<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log to WideDR &#8220;full range&#8221; with added AB Normal profile<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABNorm_CxxxLog10toRec709_Legal<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log to Rec709 &#8220;legal&#8221; with the added AB Normal profile<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABNorm_CxxxLog10toWideDR_Full<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log to WideDR &#8220;full range&#8221; with the added AB Normal profile<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABNorm_CxxxLog10toWideDR_Legal<\/strong><br \/>\nCanon Log to WideDR &#8220;legal&#8221; with the added AB Normal profile<\/p>\n<p>In general it is advisable to use the Wide DR (wide dynamic range) LUTs instead of the Rec709 versions. Do not forget that the LUTs are destructive, so in this way the range we will lose will be smaller and we will have more margin for color correction. <\/p>\n<h4>DaVinci Resolve<\/h4>\n<p>All of the above LUTs are available for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackmagicdesign.com\/es\/products\/davinciresolve\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DaVinci Resolve<\/a> system. After downloading them, you will need to copy the included Canon folder to the following directory (on Mac): <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/ResolveLUTsFiles.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9048\" alt=\"ResolveLUTsFiles\" src=\"http:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/ResolveLUTsFiles.jpg\" width=\"504\" height=\"170\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Macintosh HD &gt; Library &gt; Application Support &gt; Blackmagic Design &gt; DaVinci Resolve &gt; LUT<\/p>\n<p>When you start Resolve you will be able to apply them as normal, just like the rest of the LUTs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/ResolveLUTs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9047\" alt=\"ResolveLUTs\" src=\"http:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/ResolveLUTs.jpg\" width=\"420\" height=\"199\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>LUT Buddy<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.redgiant.com\/products\/all\/lut-buddy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LUT Buddy<\/a> is a free plugin from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.redgiant.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Red Giant<\/a> that allows you to apply LUTs in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/es\/support\/finalcutpro7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Final Cut Pro 7<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adobe.com\/es\/products\/premiere.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adobe Premiere<\/a>. It doesn&#8217;t work with many types of LUTs, so from AbelCine they provide us with the ones that should do it correctly. <\/p>\n<p>After downloading the Canon LUTs for LUT Buddy you can apply the plugin on a clip and import one of these LUTs.
