{"id":56808,"date":"2014-02-05T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-02-04T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/tutorial-hfr-recording-with-the-f55\/"},"modified":"2025-05-05T08:35:55","modified_gmt":"2025-05-05T06:35:55","slug":"tutorial-hfr-recording-with-the-f55","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/en\/tutorial-hfr-recording-with-the-f55\/","title":{"rendered":"Tutorial: HFR recording with the F55"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the arrival of firmware version 3.0 (which you can read more about <a href=\"https:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/en\/sony-releases-v3-0-firmware-for-the-f5-and-f55\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sony.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sony<\/a> gave <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sony.es\/pro\/product\/broadcast-products-camcorders-digital-motion-picture-camera\/pmw-f55\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F55<\/a> users the ability to record 2K HFR (High Frame Rate).<\/p>\n<p>In this tutorial we will explain how to get the required frame rate by following the different menu options:<\/p>\n<p>Although the two main menus are <strong>System<\/strong> and <strong>Camera<\/strong>, the first thing to do is to go to the <strong>Recording<\/strong> menu <strong> &gt; Rec Control<\/strong> and choose SxS and AXS recording if we want to use the XAVC and RAW codec simultaneously or only AXS to work on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sony.es\/pro\/product\/broadcast-products-camcorders-camera-adaptors\/axs-r5\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sony recorder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>System<\/strong> menu choose between YPbPr or RAW under <strong>Main Operation &gt; Base Setting<\/strong>. An important clarification is that HFR recording is not available if in this option we set an RGB setting. <\/p>\n<p>Then we will go to the <strong>Imager Scan Mode<\/strong>, where we can choose between Normal, <strong>Full Scan<\/strong> (uses the full sensor for 2K recording) or <strong>Center Scan<\/strong> (only uses the center of the sensor for 2048 x 1080 resolution).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/f55menu1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9413\" alt=\"f55menu1\" src=\"http:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/f55menu1.jpg\" width=\"324\" height=\"191\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, we go to the <strong>Camera<\/strong> menu <strong> &gt; S&amp;Q Motion<\/strong>. If we want to record between 1 and 60fps this option should be set to On, but the High Frame Rate Mode should be set to off. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/f55menu2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9412\" alt=\"f55menu2\" src=\"http:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/f55menu2.jpg\" width=\"324\" height=\"191\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you want to record between 72 and 240fps, set Full Scan or Center Scan in the previous option and then select the recording frame rate.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/f55menu3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9411\" alt=\"f55menu3\" src=\"http:\/\/709mediaroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/f55menu3.jpg\" width=\"324\" height=\"191\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is a diagram to help you navigate through the F55 menu to work with HFR.
