6 tips for DaVinci Resolve | Online creators

The consumption of online content is commonplace in our daily lives and there are more and more creators of online content. This type of content and creators is characterized by the creation of a constant flow of new content. Lewis McGregor, freelance filmmaker and certified DaVinci Resolve trainer, recently shared a series of tricks for DaVinci Resolve on the Premium Beat blog to make it easier for many to keep up the pace, as consistency is essential for success.

Optimal rendering

DaVinci resolve includes presets created specifically for online uploads. By default, you get a QuickTime H.264-encoded media file, restricted to 10,000 kb/s. This is for 720p, but you can quickly change it to 1080p to get HD output. This is for 720p, but you can quickly change it to 1080p to get an HD result. In addition, all settings are fully customizable.

Smooth cut

Leaving aside the crude cut so characteristic of youtube platforms, which in many occasions can be annoying, DaVinci Resolve has a soft cut effect. This softens the jump cut and gives a more elegant result. First identify and remove what you consider to be excess, go to the effects library and find soft cut. Add it to the edit point, and when you play, it’s almost as if the cut doesn’t exist: the soft cut will optically combine the two points. Here you can find a short video tutorial.

Intelligent bins

You can think of these smart bins or SmartBins as a smart iTunes playlist. The bins automatically detect the specified elements of a clip and place them in the desired bin. Basically, you can download your media files into the media pool and automatically resolve the editing contents even before you have downloaded the final clip. Right-click in the SmartBin area on the Media Page, and select add SmartBin. Then, a pop-up window will appear with which you can set the rules as you like: from a specific camera codec to a particular clip length.

Dynamic adjustment

When you need to switch between clipping tools, there are no multiple tool icons. It’s just T on the keyboard. When you enter trim mode, all available functions are activated, depending on where you place the cursor on the clip. This way of editing saves a lot of time and will speed up editing.

Effective transitions

You can include transitions very quickly without opening the effects tab. You can add an organic fade or fade out with handles on all audio and video clips. Drag the handles to the right or left (depending on what you are working with) and a fade in will be added.

Synchronize audio from Wave Form

If you record from DSLR it will be very simple. Find the audio and video clip in the media pool. Then select both files, right click and select sync to waveform. The audio capture waveform will be merged with the video based on the DSLR waveform. We will add a tutorial if you have questions.
