A few days ago, what is considered to be the first film to be uploaded and publicly available in 8K on the YouTube platform was unveiled.

8k youtube

According to what members of the company said in a blog called 9to5Google, YouTube has been able to support 8K since 2010 and early this 2015 would add tagging of such content. However, it has only been now that people have been able to see Ghost Towns, made by Luke and Marika Neumann.

The footage was shot on a RED Epic Dragon 6K in portrait orientation and postproduced in After Effects. Some shots were scaled up 125% from 6.1K to reach 7.6K.

Of course, to appreciate the full resolution of the film we would need an 8K monitor.
