Sony’s New Surround Sound Plugin

Sony has introduced a new surround sound plugin, 360 Reality Audio. With this new plugin, through 360 Reality Audio Creative Suite, you can create immersive music and sounds by mapping sound sources to create spherical and immersive environments.

This new plugin has been developed by Sony and Virtual Sonics Inc and allows the creation of 360 content, making musical experiences more immersive. To achieve this, they have used Sony’s spatial technology, allowing customized placement of different sounds in a 360 environment. Sounds can be placed individually, whether they are voices, choruses, instruments, effects, etc., so that each occupies its place in this virtual 360º sphere. Up to 128 mono elements can be distributed and automated to animate in the spherical field.

The first step to access the editing of these mixes is to install 360 Reality Audio Creative Suite in a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). It is compatible with some of the most well-known workstations in the market such as Avid Pro Tools, among others, using AAFX or VST3 plugin formats. It is 360 Reality Audio Creative Suite that allows us to mix, encode and later export the music in 360 Reality Audio Music Format. We can edit from standard master files, multitrack recordings, or even live audio. This file is in turn compatible with MPEG-H 3D Audio, the open standard.

There are different licenses available depending on the intended use of this plugin, such as content creation, distribution, and even headphone development.
