Olympus has just announced the launch of its new telephoto lens in the M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO range. M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO range.. It is a perfect telephoto lens for wildlife, nature or sports photographers, as it has been designed to take advantage of the mobility offered by the Micro Four Thirds System.
The new telephoto lens from the Japanese brand, which is still under development, although it is expected to be available by this winter, would become the lens with the longest range of the house. Thanks to the 1.25x teleconverter, the focal length is extended to 300-10000mm, and if you add the Olympus MC-20 M.Zuiko Digital 2x teleconverter, you can achieve a focal length of 2000mm. It has a constant maximum aperture of f 4.5 when the teleconverter is not in use, when it comes into play, the luminance is reduced to f 5.6.
Such a long focal length requires a stabilization system to match, and for this they have incorporated a stabilization system, which together with the camera stabilization via Sync IS, results in sharper images even at the extremes of zoom. Shake is compensated in eight EV steps, the most powerful yet.
The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO is composed of 28 optical elements distributed in 18 groups, where we can find an extra-low dispersion(ED) aspherical lens, as well as four Super ED. These ensure that the resulting images are free of chromatic aberrations at any focal length of the zoom, and that no distortion occurs in any part of the image.
The focus design of the lens allows restriction to ranges from 4.3 -19.7′ to infinity to gain speed depending on the situation. The minimum focusing distance is 1.3 meters, regardless of the focal length. Focus hold buttons have been incorporated for quick and easy control as they are located on the cylinder of the lens itself.
Olympus has also announced several firmware updates and the “new roadmap” for the M. Zuiko Digital lenses. At the moment, the only sure thing that is known about this telephoto lens is that it will be priced at €6,999 and will be available this winter, probably towards the end of January.
