Samsung has chosen Spain to install two new Onyx LED cinema screens. We already had one of them in Odeon cinemas. They are the first cinema screens certified by Digital Cinemas Initiatives (DCI).
Samsung’s Onyx Cinema LED screen technology offers a new way of watching movies, replacing projection with playback on a giant LED screen. Unlike the usual projection, it offers greater dynamic range as well as higher brightness, color and contrast. This implies a new experience for the user, who will be able to enjoy images with higher quality, better colors and deeper blacks.
These displays are perfectly compatible with HDR technology, enhancing the required brightness, color vibrancy and black signal levels. The displays are composed of 3840 15×16 LEDs, which together make them 10 times brighter and with a maximum brightness of 146fl.
In addition, the screens have managed to reduce deformation while maintaining 95% uniformity compared to 85% of classic screens. They are designed so that the screen is the center of attention and the viewer has no distractions to take away from the immersive experience.
Seville and Alicante will be the two new cities that will be able to enjoy this technology starting in September at the Odeon multiplexes in the Plaza de Armas and the San Vicente shopping center, respectively.
