A few days ago Panasonic released a free firmware update for its VariCam 35 4K and VariCam HS cameras .
The star new feature of this version is the addition of the Apple ProRes 422 HQ codec for HD recording in both models. Only in the VariCam 35, you will also have the possibility to capture with variable frame rate in AVC-Intra 4K 4:4:4 12 bit, AVC-Intra 100 and AVC-Intra 4K-LT (4:2:2:2) up to 120fps.
Within the menu of the two cameras, a “Multi Home Page” system has been included to make setup easier, a function for user clip names with industry standards such as “Camera, Reel, Take”, control for “Skin Tone Detail” and “Window Burn”, which improves workflow by identifying and securing content.
For the VariCam 35 only, 24p support for DCI 4K/2K mode has been added, as well as a menu function called “Dual Native ISO”, which allows the native camera ISOs (800 and 5000) to be displayed or all available ISOs to be viewed.
Other added features include the addition of a LAN connection so that the AK-HRP200 remote controller (from Panasonic) can be used with an Ethernet cable. In addition, this LAN connection and WiFi are available so that tools such as LiveGrade (from Pomfort), which allows in-camera color correction, can be used.
