Over the weekend Avid released Pro Tools 11, a new version of the software that redefines audio and music production by adapting it to today’s workflows. This update brings general performance improvements and features that enable new functionality.
Avid’s new audio and video engines provide much greater processing power than in version 10, even with the same hardware configurations. The video engine, which is the same as in Media Composer, allows HD video in formats such as QuickTime, XDCAM or DNxHD sequences to be played back and edited directly on the Pro Tools timeline without transcoding. In addition, it is possible to monitor video playback with interfaces from Avid, AJA and Blackmagic Design.
There will now be much more RAM accessible and sessions will be boosted by the new 64-bit performance. Submix or final mix preparation has also been affected, speeding up its creation up to 150 times faster with offline bounce.
The low-latency input buffer allows you to monitor recording inputs in Native systems without sacrificing plugin performance.
Pro Tools HD 11 is also available (as part of a purchase or upgrade to a Pro Tools HD family system – HDX or HD Native), which has the same features as Pro Tools 11 plus additional features.
Among the new features added to this version is one that only affects Pro Tools HD. This is extended metering, which allows you to choose from 17 built-in metering options to use professional standards such as VU, the K system and others instead of additional plug-ins.
The advantages of Pro Tools 11 HD are that it supports a greater number of tracks, virtual instruments and recording capabilities, includes advanced audio tools, allows you to work with mixes from mono to 7.1 surround sound, and has higher performance because it has been designed and optimized as part of an integrated hardware and software system.
Pro Tools 11 is now available for a price of 677€ for Windows 7 or 8 and Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 64 bits. From this link you can purchase it or upgrade/migrate from another system, or if you prefer you can download the trial before to test it.
