New version of Nuke and NukeX

The new version 6.3 v7 for Nuke and NukeX, The Foundry’s compositing systems, is now available.

While Nuke is The Foundry’s original compositing system, NukeX is its most powerful product, packed with tools that give its users greater freedom and allow them to solve problems in new and efficient ways. Both systems share features such as multi-channel and nodal workflows, but they also have some differences: the 3D work done by NukeX is more advanced (e.g. tracking and particle support); Nuke does not have the noise reduction and support of Pixar’s RenderMan.

In this version the reading of PSD with Photoshop layers has been improved, with the possibility of reaching up to 16 bits. It has an automatic layer detection system and performs node reconversion through embedded metadata.

Also included is a new form of color management through OpenColorIO, which allows color to be managed in a more consistent way to ensure that it is uniform across all visual effects and animations.

Another new feature is the UDIM functionality, which allows you to import a set of textures (which follow the UDIM numbering scheme) and quickly apply them to the surface of a 3D object. To this end, interoperability with MARI has also been improved, in particular through Nuke and MARI bridge.

Integration through RenderMan (NukeX only) has been improved for greater control over visual effects as well as RIB file ingest and manipulation.

For added versatility, Nuke and NukeX are compatible with all of The Foundry’s other products: MARI (for texturing and matte painting), KATANA (looks and lighting tools), and HIERO (VFX management and conforming); and with other industry-standard products such as Silhouette.

This is the page to download the update, and for those who are not yet users, here you can download the trial or buy it and have all the features explained, as well as several tutorials of the tools.
