Panasonic’s new F series of cards

Panasonic has a new series of P2 cards, the F series, with high-speed, AVC-Intra Class 200 recording capability, from the AVC-ULTRA codec family.

The F series offers high transfer speeds (up to 1.2Gbps) and contains an error correction system, equivalent to a RAID system, which memorizes recorded material and reinforces data retention.

The AVC-Intra Class 200 codec produces visually lossless compression and a much smaller file size, making it ideal for intermediate post-production or even mastering processes. However, Panasonic cameras supporting this codec, such as the already announced AG-HPX600 P2 HD, are currently in development.

But Class 200 is not the only codec supported by the new cards; they support all codecs currently available on P2 cameras and recorders, including AVC-Intra 100 and 50, as well as DVCPRO-HD 50 and 25.

Like the other P2 cards, this one also uses a high-quality, long-life solid-state memory. It is constructed of aluminum, unlike other cards that have a plastic casing, which makes it more resistant.

The F series is now available in three models:

– 64GB: for $730 (model AJ-P2E064FG).
– 32GB: for $499 (model AJ-P2E032FG).
– 16GB: for $399 (model AJ-P2E016FG).
