Balancing and matching colors in Magic Bullet Looks

This is a tutorial where you can learn some tips on how to balance and match colors in Red Giant‘s Magic Bullet Looks software.

In this case we have used one of the free presets included, simulating the style of the French painter Dominique Ingres. His technique is based on using greens and blues in the shadows, and cream or yellowish tones in the skin. In this way, depth is achieved, separating the figure from the background. In addition, the figure is slightly softened, without losing detail.

In the tutorial you will see the use of different tools such as Curves, the 3-Way Colorist, or Pop, to perform the smoothing of the image, as well as the demonstration of its effect on the scopes.

I think it is a very useful and complete tutorial, since it is a good way to learn how to handle Magic Bullet Looks and to analyze each one of the steps to follow to achieve any of its presets (there are other pictorial styles such as Goya or Lorrain). Then, later, you will be able to create personalized looks based on these techniques.

However, learning how to create complex film styles yourself is not as easy as that. So if you want to learn more about color correction and look creation techniques, you can sign up for the DaVinci Resolve course in December or the advanced DaVinci Resolve course .

I hope you find it useful:)
