Blackmagic has just released the long awaited free version of Da Vinci Resolve 8 color correction software. Now all of us who regret Apple’s decision to discontinue Color have the perfect substitutes on the table. On the one hand the full version of Da Vinci Resolve 8 for only 1000 USD and on the other hand this free version that promises to be the solution for many undergroud and no budget projects.
The Lite version of Da Vinco has the same science and architecture as its big brother but of course has certain limitations: it only works with SD and HD resolutions, supports only two color correction nodes and technically supports one GPU and one Red Rocket. In addition, steoroscopic, 2K, noise reduction and other advanced features are reserved only for the full Resolve (which can be upgraded at any time).
A great decision by Blackmagic that will allow many to get started with it for free before using the full version (incredibly cheap too). We will see if we have a new standard in color correction software.
