The new Irix lens is a model inspired by their previous model, the 150mm f/2.8 macro 1:1, but with some improvements. They have achieved a higher image quality without chromatic aberrations and with only 0.1% distortion. How do they get it? The lens is composed of 12 elements distributed in 9 groups and among them they have allocated 4 HR (high refractive index) and 3 ED (low dispersion) elements.
The lens also has an internal focusing system that prevents the lens from breathing and makes the focus go smoother without creating movement in the image. The focus ring has 270 degrees of rotation for more precise adjustment. In addition, it has a silent focusing system thanks to the MST lens system integrated into the lens and which was designed for the Irix cine lens.
They enter the cine lens market and do so with mounts prepared for various brands and formats. They will be compatible with Canon EF, Sony E, Micro 4:3 and PL mounts.
The diaphragm is composed of 11 blades designed to achieve elegant out-of-focus backgrounds and cinematic bokeh. Another of the aspects that have wanted to pay more attention is the ergonomics and finish of the lens. The lens is made of aluminum alloy and completely sealed, which makes it resistant to almost any type of weather conditions.
