Adobe announced today at IBC that it has acquired the technology of Iridas, a company specializing in color correction and DI software. Although the exact levels of this acquisition have not been specified, Adobe has announced that it plans to implement Iridas technologies in its Creative Suite (perhaps adapting some of the existing Iridas software or developing a new one).
With this, Adobe adds another piece to its professional video workflow, until now consisting mainly of the Premier Pro editor, the famous After Effect compositing tool, the Media Encoder compressor and Encore DVD authoring software. Iridas offers Speedgrade NX for color grading and DI (with support for S3D and Cineform RAW among other features) and Speedgrade OnSet, a tool for previewing looks and creating luts on set (which would be a great complement to Adobe OnLocation).
We will have to keep an eye out for the next version of the Creative Suite because it is sure to have some very interesting things in store for us.
