AJA Ki Pro Quad

AJA Video Sistems announced during the last NAB its new Ki Pro Quad recorder, which improves 4K workflows from recording to post-production.

The Ki Pro Quad is a portable video recorder that uses solid state disks and allows a breakthrough in this type of productions (4K/Quad HD/2K/HD) thanks to the efficiency provided by Apple ProRes codecs and the flexibility of RAW.

One of the major advantages of this AJA recorder is its ability to perform simultaneous processes:

• RAW recording: this is done via Thunderbolt to a storage system.

• Debayering: New hardware-based features enable real-time RAW debayering.

• ProRes recording: it is possible to create files with any of the ProRes family codecs, with low bandwidth but preserving the original quality, for easy editing. Ki Pro Quad includes support for 4:2:2 and 4:4:4:4 recording and allows real-time scaling from 4K/Quad HD to 2K and HD.

• Monitoring: can be done in both 4K and HD. Through the HDMI output, HD consumer monitors can be connected, and the HD-SDI output provides connectivity for high-end monitors.

AJA Ki Pro Quad is optimized for taking camera work to post production. Examples are the Canon C500, which can do live debayering for immediate internal ProRes (422 or 444) recording and Raw recording via Thunderbolt, storing the material on a Mac system; Sony F55, which allows 4K input via 4x 3G-SDI and 4K ProRes recording; any camera with SDI connection, such as the C300, for HD recording; and the added advantage of support for 10-bit 4:4:4:4, for cameras such as the Sony F3.

In addition to recording, it is also possible to have immediate access to any clip that has been recorded for playback at 4K or HD and to set up playlists.

Other features include ease of mounting on a wide variety of cameras, audio support and the option to import and export LUTs.

Ki Pro Quad is available through AJA dealers for $3,995. It is also available with several additional options:

• AJA Pak Dock : has Thunderbolt and USB 3 connections for faster file transfer to the computer.
• AJA Pak SSD: with Pak256 and 512 solid state disks.
• Mounting options: Mini Mounting Plate, Desktop Stand and Rod Accesory Plate. Monitor Hood is included.
