AJA has released a firmware update, version 2.0 specifically, for its Ki Pro Ultra video recorder.

This device was released about a year ago(see the corresponding posthere ) and has 4K, Ultra HD, 2K and HD recording capabilities, as well as file playback. Now, thanks to this update, it is compatible with Avid workflows.

The v2.0 adds the DNxHD HQX (220x), SQ (145) and LB (36) codecs with the following specifications for resolution and speed:

  • 1080p: 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97
  • 1080i: 25, 29.97
  • 1080PsF: 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97
  • 720p: 50, 59.94

In addition, this version adds Ki Protect, which helps preserve the integrity of the disc in case it is accidentally removed or turned off. To do so, this function works with a pre-assigned space for video, audio and timecode, so that from the moment the recording starts, the file header is updated as it receives information to be able to recover all the captured frames.
