Alchemist OD also wants ProRes

Snell has updated its Alchemist OD system by adding support for the Apple ProRes family, one of the most widely used codecs in post-production and one that is increasingly being introduced from the recording stage.

Alchemist OD is a media conversion system with four applications:

  • 4K Digital Cinema: to convert 4K material from 25p to 24p and bring it to the big screen.
  • VOD Package Delivery: for conversions from interlaced SD and HD formats to progressive.
  • Global Program Exchange: converts from any frame rate to any other facilitating the export of production worldwide.
  • Blu-ray mastering: Blu-ray authoring.

Thanks to this update, the range of supported codecs has been expanded to include ProRes 4444, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 422, ProRes 422 LT and ProRes 422 Proxy. In addition, Alchemist OD allows multiple outputs to be created from any incoming file (up to 4K) and supports a wide variety of formats and codecs, including:

  • MXF OP1a
  • MOV
  • ProRes
  • DNxHD
  • DVCPro 50/100
  • XDCAM HD
  • D10 (IMX 30/40/50)
  • AVC-Intra 50/100/200
  • DPX 10-bit
  • JPEG 2000 (coming soon)

It runs on Windows (64-bit) and Linux and has the ability to work with one or more GPUs such as NVIDIA or AMD. (In this page you can see all the technical specifications).

Its price starts at $16,000 per license, although it is reduced if we increase the number of licenses.
