Apple updates Final Cut Pro X

The new Final Cut Pro X update is designed for the best performance and compatibility with the new Mac Pro and Display Pro XDR.

The new version of Final Cut Pro X comes with the Metal engine capable of communicating directly with the GPU of different Mac systems. The main objective is compatibility with the new Mac Pro and the visualization possibilities it can offer, such as high-resolution images or HDR from Apple Pro Display XDR. With Metal not only improves playback but also accelerates rendering processes, real-time visualization of effects and even export to Metal-compatible systems. Motion and Compressor will also feature this new Metal engine.

We are talking about up to 20 and 35% faster performance on the 15-inch MacBook Pro and iMac Pro respectively.

For those who edit, you will be interested to know that Final Cut Pro X will be able to work with multiple GPUs and up to 28 CPU cores, which translated into power means 2.9 times faster rendering and 3.2 times faster transcoding than in previous Mac Pros, which unlike this one only had 12 cores. As an option card, the Afterburner card for editors allows working with ProRes and ProRes RAW files, which are very demanding for the machines. It is capable of playing back 16 streams in 4K ProRes 422 or 3 streams in 8K ProRes RAW simultaneously.

As we mentioned earlier, Final Cut Pro X will be compatible with the Display Pro XDR to edit and display HDR images thanks to the 1,000 nits of brightness provided by the Apple monitor. We recall that the Display Pro XDR has a 32-inch retina display with a contrast of 1,000,000:1. The connection to the Mac Pro via thunderbolt, allows you to connect up to 3 Display Por XDR to assemble a workstation with 2 monitors for the final Cut Pro X interface and a third as a reference monitor. Apple has also enabled the Sidecar function to be able to connect a tablet to the MacOs Catalina and thus have a second monitor.
As enhancements to the Final Cut Pro interface for working with HDR images, the new version 10.4.7 includes color masks and range isolation tools for HDR work and tone mapping from HDR to SDR when working with MacOs Catalina. Users will also be able to select between working with internal or external GPU for graphics processing.
This Final Cut Pro X update is available for free, but will cost $329.9 for new users.
