Last September ARRI surprised us with the presentation of Amira, a new camera designed for documentary style, and now we finally know its starting price.
As of yesterday we can know that the camera along with the viewfinder will have a starting price of $40,000, which will be scaled up according to the optional features and accessories added by users to build their ideal model.
For the design of this camera ARRI has thought a lot about flexibility; that’s why there are three available configurations differentiated by the set of functions included in the software. Each user can then choose the lens mount, battery mount and bottom base to obtain their complete “customized” camera.
- The basic configuration allows recording in ProRes 422 (Rec 709) at up to 100 fps and is intended for those who want to work in corporate, inline or broadcast markets.
- Advanced settings add the ability to use Log C and ProRes 422 HQ at up to 200 fps, as well as pre-record and in-camera color correction functions.
- Finally, the premium configuration incorporates features aimed at high-end productions, for example to use AMIRA in support of an ALEXA. These features include the ProRes 4444 codec and 2K resolution up to 200fps, plus “unlimited” color control with the ability to add 3D LUTs.
Regardless of the model initially chosen, additional features can be upgraded later by purchasing temporary or permanent licenses from the ARRI website.
Distributors around the world have already started taking orders, although the cameras will not start to be delivered until the second quarter of this year. In Spain you will be able to find it through the film and video equipment distribution company Video Cine Import.
