Assimilate launches Scratch 8.4

Assimilate has just updated its Scratch color correction and finishing system to version 8.4, bringing new support and features.

New and improved tools

Among the highlights is the possibility of a logarithmic ACES workflow. Although ACES technology is primarily linear, user requests have led Assimilate to implement this option, which will allow colorists to work comfortably with logarithmic controls in ACES.

Newly added support are 10-bit color depth for OS X El Capitan operating systems and Kinefinity RAW (KRW and DNG) file support.

There is a new option called “video-wall“, to quickly view and compare versions of the same shot or several shots of a timeline in a single view. If we combine it with the right view option, we can have all versions in the reference monitor and continue working in the interface monitor.

Shaping flexibility has been increased, with the possibility to import a timeline partially from an EDL, AAF or XML and use markers for missing media.

The noise generator and smoothing have also been improved and can now be applied on freely created masks, not only on circles or rectangles.

Finally, text editing capabilities now support bi-directional languages, including Arabic and Hebrew.

Scratch Web

The functionality of the cloud-based review tools has been expanded, with the ability to now send links for the customer to review content without the need for a Scratch account.

In addition, Scratch Web now lets you render media offline, which means that you can render a file even if you don’t have an Internet connection and upload it later, when it returns.
