Atomos and RED sign agreement to share technology

Red and Atomos have signed a licensing agreement to cooperate for a new range of products containing the DNA of both companies. This has the potential to be very significant, given that details are not yet available. But the prospect of two of the most interesting and boldest companies in the industry working together, sharing their technology, is very exciting.

Atomos and RED sign agreement

As expected, the ad itself is restrained and measured. It is important to note that the headline mentions “license agreement”. So it is a formal agreement, not an ad-hoc agreement, but knowing that such an agreement is in place makes it easier for the two companies to share their information. One party can agree to share its software, for example, in exchange for the other party designing some electronic devices.

Here is the full statement. Atomos CEO Jeromy Young said:

“Atomos and RED are now further aligned to make the most advanced video recording technology more affordable without compromising creative freedom. RED has always been at the forefront of digital cinema technology and has pushed the industry forward. We are excited to be able to work closely with RED, not only utilizing some of their key intellectual property, but joining forces with them on future products.”
