Atomos has introduced its new “Bare Bones” models, which will be coming to its entire line of recorders during the month of May.
These are versions of their well-known recorder/monitors with a rather reduced price because they do not come with the full set of accessories. For example, the current Shogun ($1,995) includes a hard case, adapters, card sleeves, battery chargers, etc. Now, with the “Bare Bones” model, all of these accessories are removed except for the SSD media sleeves and power cable. In addition, a high quality soft case is included for transporting the recorder.
These versions arise from customer requests to be able to use their older Atomos accessories to get a more affordable second unit or to be able to join 4K workflows more quickly.
Even so, the full accessory kit will still be sold for $395 for Shogun and $195 for the Ninja Blade and Samurai Blade.
These are the prices that the “Bare Bones” models will have:
- Shogun: $1,695
- Ninja 2: 395$
- Ninja Blade: $795
- Samurai Blade: $795
In addition, Atomos has announced the free updates that will be included in Shogun (via firmware downloads) over the next few months.
- “Anamorphic de-squeeze for Panasonic GH4 and standard lenses.
- Conversion of camera RAW material to ProRes, DNxHR and Cinema DNG in 4K, UHD, 2K and HD resolutions.
- RAW format compatibility extended to include Sony FS series, Canon C500, Arri Alexa and AJA CION.
- 3D LUTs on the HDMI/SDI output covering standard and user-defined LUTs in .cube format, with the possibility of storing up to 8.
