Atomos releases new firmware update for the Sumo 19 HDR

Atomos releases new firmware update for its monitor Sumo 19 HDR. What is now a monitor and recorder also becomes a mixing desk by being able to use it as a multi-camera editor.

The 9.2 update also allows shooting with quad ISO, one for each camera. This is something that was long overdue when they announced the monitor at NAB2017 and only this year it was finally implemented. It is a very suitable monitor for this type of practice thanks to its 19 inches, big enough to perfectly see all 4 camera signals at the same time.

During events shot in multi-camera, users will be able to record up to 5 video signals at the same time with a resolution of 1920X1080 at 60 frames per second. Although 5 signals can be recorded, the number of different ISOs that can be handled simultaneously is limited to 4. This is a great advantage because you no longer have to synchronize the signals through the genlock.

As we have already mentioned, as it is also a monitor recorder, the Sumo 19 HDR allows you to store the program or piece made on the SSD disk itself. It presents two options for this recorded material, on the one hand in Apple ProRes and on the other in Avid DNx. Another option is to record the signal generated through the HDMI or HD-SDI ports. It allows recording in ProRes RAW with real time, but this option is disabled for quad ISO. During recording, an XML file is also generated with the metadata of the editing that has been performed in real time.

Another important part of the realization of this type of pieces is the audio and for this the Atomos Sumo 19 HDR allows us a great variety of options to record it. It allows us to include in the final signal the audio coming from one of the cameras, the audio from an external source or simply the audio from each of the cameras.

The monitor distinguishes between a clean cut and a transition depending on how a camera is selected. This can be customized so that for example with one touch it practices a clean cut and with two touches a dissolve.
