Atomos Shogun 7 already reaches 3000 nits

It’s official, Atomos is pushing the potential of the Shogun 7 monitor/recorder to the maximum, capable of reaching 3000 nits.

In the news around the world of HDR one of the news we had was just this, that the new firmware new firmware firmware of the Atomos monitor would leave behind the 1500 nits of brightness to raise it to its maximum brightness of 3000 nits and we can finally enjoy the new release.

Previous firmware reaching 1500 nits made the Atomos Shogun 7 the first monitor capable of true HDR. Atomos achieves these brightness levels thanks to its backlighting system that divides the screen into 360 zones of illumination for greater control of the signal. With the new upgrade, the monitor is capable of displaying more than 15 stops of dynamic range, especially noticeable in highlights. Blacks on the other hand are not affectedby this increase in brightness.

For PQ and HLG work, the new maximum brightness level is automatically set, while for Rec 709 it has to be changed manually as in the native display modes. In fact Atomos advises to use the 1500 nits Daylight mode for Rec 709 even if the viewing conditions are bright. The maximum brightness mode of 3000 nits does not necessarily correspond to the best viewing mode in bright light conditions.

The AtomosOS V10.3 version enables live Dolby Vision output through the HDMI output to a Dolby Vision monitor. Another advantage is the unlocking of 2K 240p for Sony and Panasonic RAW.
