ATTO Technology and DELL EMC have joined forces to offer users access to LTO SAS tapes over Ethernet networks. This union opens up new ways of collaboration and workflows in post-production.
The ATTO XtreamCORE ET 8200 ATTO storage units thanks to this collaboration allow connection to the LTO tape libraries of a DELL EMC via Ethernet. What does this mean? For production companies it means a new way of working that is much more flexible and just as reliable as older systems. In fact, the creators of both brands emphasize the greater freedom of backup, back up and restore through this new system. The fact of being able to work remotely, with the guarantee of being able to have control and access to data is already an advantage.
DELL EMC has employed for this new merger its technology and experience in LTO tape systems that guarantee the user a reliable and secure system through which all LTO tape operations can be easily managed and administered. The design developed by DELL is a scalable design with the possibility of automating daily operations on a “scripted” basis.
For its part, ATTO Technology provides the connectivity part in this merger thanks to its XtreamCORE ET 8200 storage controller that allows the connection of LTO tapes in a DELL EMC through Ethernet networks. The iSCSI system used allows remote control of the LTOs in a secure way and with the support of a giant in this sector, such as ATTO.
The process is now much more extensive since from a single physical tape player, we can reach more servers by converting it into a “virtual” tape with ATTO’s Ethernet switch. This avoids bottlenecks and allows working from several units from different locations.
