Following yesterday’s announcement of Autodesk ‘s deal to buy Shotgun Software, we see another key VFX tool becoming part of the company’s product line.
Since its launch in 2006, Shotgun Software has developed tools aimed at enabling artists and supervisors to review and manage VFX shot assets even if they are working in distributed teams. This cloud-based platform has had a great acceptance over the years and currently has more than 500 customers who can track their effects created in systems such as 3ds Max, Maya or Nuke.
Autodesk has said that the existing Shotgun Software team will continue to provide support to old and new customers, in addition to leading product development.
This is one of his many companies acquired in the last 15 years (Discreet Logic, Colorfront, Skymatter (Mudbox), Realviz or Softimage).
The remaining terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, but are expected to be finalized by the end of July.
