Avid Media Composer 8.3.1

Version 8.3.1 of the Avid Media Composer editing system is now available, which brings new features concerning the DNxHR and XAVC codecs.

These are the added features:

DNxHR export in QuickTime

The QuickTime format has now been included in the actions available for media in DNxHR, the latest codec of the well-known codec family. This means that you will be able to export a QuickTime Movie or QuickTime Reference with a resolution higher than HD, using the Same as Source or Custom options.

Within the QuickTime export window, you will find the DNxHR in the “Standard Video Compression” settings.

Export of DNxHR in MXF OP1a

We have also added the possibility of exporting the latest Avid codec encapsulated in an MXF of type OP1a, with 16 audio channels and auxiliary data. To do this you must select the “AMA File Export” option.

UHD and 4K XAVC-I support

With this update, the supported codecs have been expanded, allowing linking through AMA, consolidating and exporting any XAVC-I file in Ultra HD or 4K. In addition, the decoding and playback performance of this codec has been improved.

These plugins are required for AMA linking:

  • XAVC-I (Sony XDCAM AMA plug-in v3.40)
  • XAVC-I MXF (Avid MXF OP1a AMA plug-ins)

Changes in default media creation

Within the “Media Creation Mixdown & Transcode” settings you will find the “AMA Source/Scalling Quality” option, where it now defaults to “Full Quality” instead of “Half Quality (Good)“.
