Avid introduces the new version of Pro Tools with 4K support at AES (Audio Engineering Society) 2019 in New York.
Avid has announced that the new version of Pro Tools is riding the 4K wave and will be able to play back and display high quality 4K and Ultra High Definition files. This is a huge advantage for audio professionals, since with the new Pro Tools there will be no need to transcode high-resolution, high frame rate files.
It is put on the same working level as the Avid Media Composer video editor to streamline the workflow between video and audio editors. Not only is the workflow improved, but the accuracy with which Pro Tools users will now work is improved, as the timeline will be able to play back the appropriate frame rate and they will be able to work with the same files accepted by Media Composer.
With HDR increasingly present in audiovisual productions and in the requirements of online video platforms such as Netflix, Pro Tools has also improved workflows with Dolby Atmos audio. Pro Tools 2019 will be able to send up to 130 CoreAudio channels to the Dolby Atmos Renderer software. This simplifies the delivery of multiple audio mixes through a single file as well as Dolby Atmos “In the box” mixing and playback by running both (Dolby Atmos Renderer and Pro Tools) on the same system.
The fact that Pro Tools is part of the Netflix Post Technology Alliance (PTA) makes us understand some of the main new features presented, as it is now possible to deliver in a single WAV file different mixes so that it is easier to have them localized. This ensures Avid a guarantee of proper operation and compliance with technical requirements that working with Netflix demands.
Now we will have to wait for the release date of the Pro Tools update.
