Baselight is one of the most reputable color correction systems for film, television and advertising, a high-end system reserved so far only for big budget projects. However, a few months ago its manufacturer, Filmlight, decided to develop it as a plug-in for Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Pro 7 editors, keeping all the essential functions, the user interface and, most importantly, the color correction calculations. The result is a powerful color correction tool perfectly integrated into the video editor, making it possible for operators to perform elaborate color corrections easily.
In this Baselight course we will use the Avid Media Composer version, focusing on the plug-in’s color correction tools and its interaction with its big brothers, since it is possible to export the corrections made in the plug-in to an independent Baselight station. At the end the student will be able to perform color corrections using the plug-in (on Avid or Final Cut) and will know the basic interface of a Baselight station, a system so far not very accessible for learning.
