FilmLight has decided to take a step forward with the release of the Windows version of its Baselight plugin for Avid, part of the Baselight Editions series that also has versions for Mac(Avid), Final Cut Pro and Nuke.
In order to meet the growing demand for color control in all post-production processes, the company wanted to cover the users of this platform by providing them with the main elements of one of the most powerful color correction systems on the market.
With Baselight Editions, editors have the Baselight interface at their fingertips, along with color processing, in a standard AVX plug-in. This way they can make unlimited primary and secondary color corrections on a single layer, including mattes, automatic tracking and keyframe animations if desired.
Color metadata can be transferred from Avid to any Baselight system (back and forth) via AAF files, without the need for time-consuming rendering. In addition, these exported color corrections can be fully modified and last minute changes can be added directly in Media Composer.
This color information can also be exported in the FilmLight BLG format, which ensures a seamless exchange between any of the Baselight systems.
Included with the plug-in is Truelight, a color management software that will help editors make sure that what they are seeing on the monitor is what they will get in the final file.
To use Baselight for Avid on Windows you will simply need to purchase it (for $995) or download the trial version from this page, and have Media Composer or Symphony 6.
A good complement to this plugin would be Slate, a controller with the same configuration and precision as the complete ones offered by FilmLight, but with a smaller size.
And if you are interested in color correction, I recommend that you take a look at our list of courses, where you will find both theoretical and practical courses, the latter being able to choose between different systems.
