Blackmagic Design upgrades DaVinci Resolve

Blackmagic Design updates DaVinci Resolve with more than 30 new features.

DaVinci Resolve 15 was already a major update to the renowned software, and today Blackmagic Design has announced a new iterative version, 15.2 with a host of additions, enhancements and bug fixes. Some of the changes, at least on paper, are quite small, but should greatly improve convenience and ease of use. The list is quite long, but highlights include:

• Improved editing performance and responsiveness due to increased frame rate timeline editing
• A completely redesigned keyboard customization interface.
• New active window highlighting.
• Easy time code entry.
• The new ACES transformation, gamma limiter, beauty and blanking fill the ResolveFX plug-ins.
• Duplicate clip detection.
• Clips in the bin now show usage indicators for the current timeline.
• Timeline cleaning function.
• Timelines and compound clips can be loaded into the source viewer and then inserted into the current timeline in their decomposed state.
• Clips can be marked on a source timeline and then edited directly on a new active timeline.

Overall there are 30 new features. The new Blanking Fill FX plug-in is particularly interesting for documentary makers who may need to include cell phone footage, possibly shot in portrait mode. It automatically fills in the remaining areas with blurred video. The new Beauty plug-in is designed, as the name suggests, to beautify skin and other surfaces.

Fairlight Audio

Fairlight has also received updates that include a new multiband compressor, a stereo fixer, the ability to modify transitions that were created on the edit page, timecode navigation, a smooth clipper effect and more.
