Blackmagic Design has announced a price drop for its Production Camera, which now retails for $2,995 (€2,279) instead of the previous $3,995.
According to the company, they have worked hard to reduce camera costs and expect this rebate to help expand Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) productions.
The Production Camera 4K is not aimed at digital filmmaking, but is more focused on Ultra HD high-resolution television. It features a Super 35 sensor, global shutter, EF and ZE compatible lens mount, as well as 6G-SDI output that allows 4K video to be sent in real time to ATEM Production 4K switchers for live production.
It offers recording in RAW Cinema DNG or ProRes 422 HQ, the latter with the possibility of capturing to its built-in SSD recorder. It also has a rechargeable battery and a 5″ LCD touchscreen that can be used for monitoring, focus assist, entering metadata or changing camera settings.
In addition, a big plus for this camera is that it includes a copy of the full version of DaVinci Resolve, for high-level color correction on Windows and Mac OS X.
In 2013 there was only one camera capable of recording 4K without using an external recorder, the Canon EOS-1D C; which this year joins the Panasonic GH4 and Blackmagic Production.
The new pricing is available to all customers through Blackmagic dealers worldwide, including existing orders.
