Firmware 1.9.3
Blackmagic Design has recently released firmware version 1.9.3, which comes with a new histogram display, audio meters and remaining time indicators.
This latest update will affect the Blackmagic Cinema Camera and Pocket Cinema Camera, although the Production Camera 4K got the same new features the previous month.
Access to the new display on the BMCC will appear by swiping from the bottom of the screen, or by simply pressing the “Iris” button when a manual lens is mounted.
In the case of the Pocket Cinema Camera, the up and down buttons show or hide the display.
Some of these options already existed in the original firmware version, but were removed in subsequent updates. An example of this is “Time Remaining”, which lets us know how much space we have to continue recording.
More functions for white balance and shutter angle have also been added, and a bug affecting camera playback with ProRes files has been fixed.
DaVinci Resolve 11
In addition, on August 6, Blackmagic launched the long-awaited DaVinci Resolve 11, announced during NAB and in beta since the end of June.
Although you can see here the post with all the added features and improvements, I remind you that this version comes with more than 70 improvements in the editing window, including intelligent trim modes. It is now possible to use two monitors and, if we have a Blackmagic video card, another one for reference and calibration. Tools have been added to the set to allow back-ups to multiple destinations, the Match Color tool. In addition, colorists can now work in collaborative environments, using the same timeline from different stations.
Finally, Blackmagic has improved integration with Apple, refining the roundtrip with Final Cut Pro X, supporting the new ProRes 4444 XQ and announcing that its system is optimized to work with the new generation of Mac Pros.
DaVinci Resolve 11 is available for Windows, Mac and Linux and is a free upgrade for existing users.
