Boris FX, a company dedicated to VFX plug-ins or tools to improve workflows, announced a few days ago Boris Soundbite Version 2.
Boris Soundbite is a software, developed by Nexidia, which is used to locate material thanks to a fast and accurate audio analysis search method. It finds any word or phrase that appears (in spoken form) in our clips.
In this new version, support for workgroups has been added. Thus, even if our media is located in shared storage systems, the search process is performed instantly by one or more editors in the same workgroup.
It is only available for Adobe Premiere (CS5.5) or Final Cut Pro (FCP X or 7); and runs on Mac OS X (10.6 or later). Unfortunately it is not available for Avid, and at the moment it doesn’t look like it will be released.
In addition to working with these systems, it can also work as a standalone application analyzing Quicktime videos (7.6 or later).
By searching (around a word or phrase), Soundbite can be used to play back the video clips to find the shot(s) that we actually want to import into the editing system. This can be very useful in certain productions that need to find footage quickly, such as in documentaries, TV shows, or news broadcasts. However, this software can also be very useful in fiction. We can use it to find and replace parts of the dialogue where there is noise or the intonation of the actors is different.
If you are working with FCP, there are two ways to start the search: by adding a folder or directly in the Final Cut project. Once you have found the files, you choose where you want to save the imported clips (the project and the bin). When importing, you can mark inputs and outputs and, in addition, each word you have searched for is converted into a colored marker (marker in FCP) that is also saved.
Several languages are available: English, Spanish (European and Latin), French, German, Italian and Dutch.
Its price is $295, although for those who already had Boris Soundbite, this update is completely free. You can purchase it here, or download a 14-day trial version.
