CalDigit yesterday launched its Thunderbolt Station, an aluminum device that integrates all the connections demanded by laptop users giving them the flexibility of a state-of-the-art desktop computer.
It includes two Thunderbolt ports, three USB 3.0, HDMI, Gigabith Ethernet and audio input and output, allowing you to connect various peripherals, such as hard drives, monitors or speakers, through a single cable.
The goal of the two Thunderbolt ports is to be able to daisy-chain up to six devices, enabling high-powered, high-performance expansion in a compact design.
Unlike other similar products on the market (limited to 2.5Gbs), USB 3.0 supports 5Gbs speed, providing the ability to add 3.0 connectivity to those who only have a Thunderbolt-equipped Mac. In addition, these ports can also charge mobile devices.
The HDMI port supports resolutions up to 2560×1600 and supports HDCP playback, which allows content such as iTunes movies to be played on an HDMI display. This connection is ideal for expanding the monitor set, being able to have up to three displays, including a laptop display, via Thunderbolt and HDMI.
The CalDigit Thunderbolt Station can now be pre-ordered from the online store and will be available very soon through the usual distributors for a price of 179€ ($199).
