Calibrated Software has released a new product in its line {Q}, Quicktime components that enhance video capture and editing workflows.
This is Calibrated {Q} AVC-Intra Encode, an application that allows you to export 10-bit AVC-Intra encoded .MOV (Quicktime) files. The good thing is that it can be done from software that supports Quicktime on both Mac and PC.
AVC-Intra is a type of 10-bit video encoding developed by Panasonic for its P2 line of professional cameras. Calibrated {Q} AVC-Intra Encode takes advantage of the 10-bit compression benefits of the codec and includes presets to perform encoding with the target system in mind, such as Final Cut Pro (7, X); Compressor (3.5, 4); Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder (CS5, 5.5, 6); providing the highest level of depth delivery.
A unique feature called Post-Encode has been introduced in this application, which allows users to embed Final Cut Pro X metadata, giving information such as ReelName, Scene or Location, and note clips into a .MOV file after encoding. Once embedded, the data can be easily viewed by importing it into FCP X. In addition to metadata integration, this feature also gives the possibility to enter a new timecode, via a TimeCode track. This will be visible in all software that supports time code tracks in Quicktime.
This system is for encoding only, so in some software, such as Adobe, you may need Calibrated {Q} AVC-Intra Decode, which allows the import and display of these files. In others, such as FCP, Motion, Compressor and Avid Media Composer (from version 5.5.1 through AMA) you can import the files natively.
Thanks to this type of solution, it is now much easier to share files with this encoding and exchange them between platforms with Windows and OS X operating systems.
System requirements
– For Windows: Windows 7 or Vista (Business or Ultimate) 32/64-bit; or Windows XP 32-bit with SP3 on an Intel processor with SSE3 support and a recommended configuration of at least an Intel Core 2 Duo with two physical cores.
– For Mac: Mac OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) or Mac OSX 10.7.1 (Lion) on a MacIntel with an Intel Core Duo processor with a minimum of two cores or two physical processors.
All users must have QuickTime Player version 7.6.6 or higher. Viewing and playback of AVC-Intra-enabled .MOV files in applications that support Quicktime requires a licensed installation of FCP 7 or X, Compressor 3.5/4 or Calibrated {Q} AVC-Intra Decode.
Calibrated {Q} AVC-Intra Encode version 1.0 is now available from their online store. The price for Mac is $149.95 and for PC is $199.95.
