SpectraCal, the developer of the CalMAN monitor calibration system, recently announced the release of its ColorChecker software free of charge.
ColorChecker performs in about 5 minutes a test that allows users to determine the fidelity of their monitor to industry standards such as Rec709, DCI or sRGB. This requires a probe and a pattern generator.
After downloading the software, simply follow the instructions to connect the color meter and pattern generator. Then choose the appropriate color space and click on “Read Series” to start the test.
A screen like the one in the image below will then appear, where each vertical line represents the amount of error in a value compared to the target color values. Note that errors below delta E 3, on the green line, generally cannot be perceived by the human eye.
SpectraCal has made the software compatible with a wide range of products, including some of the most cost-effective options on the market. In this link you can see the complete list of supported software.
Among the measurements performed by ColorChecker we find the comparison of the obtained grayscale with the desired values, error in the white balance or the highest white output, as well as a specific color rendering for more than 100 selected color values.
It can also be useful if we want to compare the differences between several monitors.
This same software was previously available as a part of the CalMAN product package or for individual purchase. It is now available for free download via this link.
