CalMAN for Resolve is one of SpectraCal ‘s solutions for standalone users of the DaVinci Resolve color correction system.
This is a new product that provides automatic calibration of grade 1 monitors, bringing them up to HD standards via 3D LUTs, and is designed specifically for Resolve version 10.1.
Designed for production, post-production or broadcast environments, it comes with presets to configure D65, Rec.709 with BT.1886 gamma. In less than an hour we can obtain an automatic calibration by calculating 4,913 color points.
It also supports the .CUBE format for 17x17x17 LUTs.
The SpectraCal C3 or C6 meters communicate via a USB connection and measure color rendering. DaVinci, on the other hand, generates the patterns on the monitor via an HD SDI cable, using the CalMAN integrated plug-in.
CalMAN works as follows; it first communicates with DaVinci’s built-in pattern generator to display a reference on the monitor. The connected meter (C3 or C6) reads the generated patterns on the screen and CalMAN captures these readings, placing them on graphs in the application.
Thanks to CalMAN AutoCube technology, the process is simplified to hardware connection, output selection for the 3D LUT file and automatic calibration after pressing the AutoCube button.
Possibly we will miss several color spaces other than Rec.709, but for the price it has along with the C3 and C6 meters I think it is a good calibration package.
- CalMAN for Resolve + C3: $150.
- CalMAN for Resolve + C6: $695.
Here you have all the information about downloading and purchasing. We also remind you that in July there will be an interesting course on calibration and color management for digital video.
