Canon has announced the launch of the new Canon EOS C500 Mark II with a full frame 5.9K sensor and a very competitive price in the professional market.
The main difference with respect to the previous model is its new full frame CMOS sensor capable of recording 5.9K images. Thanks to the new Digic DV7 processor, the Canon C500 MKII is capable of recording 5.9K images internally at 60 frames per second in Cinema RAW Light format as well as 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling in XF-AVC format. The cards become CFExpress cards and include 2 slots although it also incorporates a slot for SD cards designed for recording proxies.
Another major improvement added to the new Canon model is the option to switch lens mounts between EF, PL and Cine EF mounts. With Canon’s Dual Pixel autofocus system, 80% of the sensor area is covered for focus automation processes.
It incorporates a motorized ND filter wheel with up to 5 positions, 2 more than the EOS C500 and intended to cover virtually all lighting conditions. To the options 2, 4 and 6 have been added 2 more ND positions, 8 and 10 to have a more precise control of the depth of field in every situation.
It has 2 different options in the remote control configuration: EU-V1 and EU-V2 with a BNC Genlock/sync output, an interface for remote control with RC-V100 or via ethernet for remote operations over IP. The second configuration, in addition to these options, includes 2 XLR inputs and a 12-pin lens input. It incorporates a 4.3-inch LM-V2 LCD touchscreen and a removable 0.47-inch electronic OLED viewfinder.
Something we don’t usually see among film cameras is the stabilization system, but Canon has broken the standards with the 5-axis stabilization system built into the EOS C500 MKII. There will be no need to indicate the focal length when using lenses capable of transmitting data to the camera directly, otherwise, you will have to manually indicate the focal length being used to aid in stabilization.
There are already many brands presenting new models with a view to reaching all markets. If this morning we announced the new Panasonic model, a little later Canon released the big news with the EOS C500 MKII that will be on sale from December with a price of £15,999.
