We’re back! How was your summer? We are already here with our batteries charged to keep informing you about the latest news in the audiovisual sector.

Let’s start this new season with Canon, which just a few days ago surprised us by announcing the details of the new EOS C700 camera in two models, EF/PL and GS PL.

The cameras have a modular design and feature a Super 35mm CMOS sensor with a maximum pixel count of 4.5K (which for the GS PL would be 4.2K). This combined with the triple DIGIC DV5 processors, allows the capture of 4K DCI or 4K UHD footage at up to 810Mbps.

Both can record at frame rates of 59.94p/50p and up to 200p/240p in 2K (with the sensor in crop mode), using internal recording on CFast 2.0 cards. It is also possible to achieve 100p/120p in 4K with the optional Codex RAW attachable recorder.

ISO goes up to 102,400 and includes ND filters, with up to 10-stop control.

The slightly more expensive GS model (approximately £2000) is the first camera in the Cinema EOS series to feature a global shutter.

The EOS C700 EF has some qualities such as Dual Pixel CMOS AF, support for Canon Log 3, Log 2 and Log Gammas and 15 stops of dynamic range (reduced to 14 on the GS PL). It also supports Canon Cinema Gamut, BT.2020 and DCI-P3 color spaces, as well as ACES 1.0 workflow and HDR monitoring with SMPTE ST.2084.

It appears that sales of the C700 EF/PL will begin in December, with a starting price of £28,839, and those of the C700 GS PL in early 2017 for about £30,789.
