Cinedeck updates its recorders

Cinedeck has announced a hardware and software upgrade for its line of digital recording products.

The company has just introduced its new MX4K recorder, which enters the market with the aim of expanding the possibilities within a 4K workflow. Thanks to its qualities, many steps will be eliminated in the transcoding of files, either for the material to reach the editing rooms or directly for streaming.

It will allow recording of two YUV10 channels in 4K and UHD at 30fps using SSD disks as support. The great advantage of the new MX4K is that it will be able to create edit-ready HD masters, proxies and H.264 clips (for streaming) at the same time, as well as downconvert in real time for on-set HD monitoring.

These 4K, HD and proxy files can be recorded to internal SSDs, while deliveries in formats such as ProRes or Cineform can be written to a SAN so that editors have immediate access to the material.

It is also possible to apply customized LUTs to the output files (HD, proxies and H.264) and to the recorder’s integrated display.

We can’t yet know a release date for the MX4K, although Cinedeck has said that at NAB (usually held in April) we will have seen it.

And in the meantime, version 5 software has been released for the MX and RX3G recorders, adding support for HD broadcast delivery standards. This update includes the XDCAM HD, AVC Intra-100 and D-10 (IMX) codecs, all of which are Op1A.

In addition, support for H.264 and the EDLs and Edit While Record functions have been improved.

If you want to learn more about the 4K workflow, I recommend you to take a look at this course that will take place next March.
