ClipToolz Convert V2 is a file conversion software, developed by colorist and programmer Wayne Norton, now released free for PC.
Although it was originally based on the ffmpeg/ffmpg codecs, many other codecs and certain variations requested by the Avid user community have been added during its development.
Thanks to its tools we will be able to convert and change codec files, resolution, speed, add different types of metadata and even make backup copies. These are some of its main functions:
Crop Tool
It allows us to take a shot in 1080 from one in 4K, but it does not scale it, but cuts the proportional part to maintain all possible quality, simply by adjusting the frame we want.
It also includes a setting for working in 2.35 with anamorphic clips.
PTS function
It is a function for general slow motion with super smoothing. It also provides the ability to change speeds with the appropriate audio change accordingly, from 24 to 25fps, from 24 to 30fps, from 25 to 24fps, from 25 to 30fps, from 30 to 24fps and from 30 to 25fps. It works with most codecs and formats in SD, HD or 4K resolutions.
Time code tools
This tool quickly calculates a timecode for each new clip dragged onto the interface when the “run sequence” option is selected. It is also possible to generate a custom TC for each file by filling in the start TC fields and it will automatically set the output TC.
MulticoreWare
MulticoreWare” conversions will make H.265 file playback optimized on any computer. It is also available for HEVC H.265.
Renaming and archiving tools
There are tools to perform up to three backups in different directories with a basic check.
From the Media Pool (as you can see the developer is a DaVinci colorist) we can add a custom prefix to change the name of the clips, use the time of creation for this change or simply have them go as a numerical sequence.
Scopes
ClipToolz comes with a set of scopes including a waveform, RGB Parade, RGB and luminance histograms and a vectorscope. In addition, the picker function allows us to know the color values in RGB and HSL.
Audio tools
And let’s not forget about audio, because this software has several functions with which we can obtain a 5.1 sound starting from a stereo audio or 6 mono channels; as well as convert clips with wav, aac, ac3 or mp3 formats.
Other functions
- Add audio to image sequences.
- Correct anamorphic aspect ratios.
- OP Atom and DNxHD support for Avid systems (in HD resolutions).
- Add interlaced material to progressive clips or convert to progressive.
- Add 3D LUTs.
- Support for Canon C series MXF format.
- Support for Blackmagic HyperDeck.
- Support for GoPro with mono audio tracks.
- Creation of proxies at half resolution.
