Codex adds support for ARRI Alexa Studio

ARRI Alexa Studio was released a few months ago and now Codex Digital has announced full support for it.

Codex Digital is a company dedicated to the design of high resolution recorders and media management stations for both film and television productions.

One of the Codex recorders available is Codex Onboard, which allows recording HD material without compression or based on wavelet compression, as well as audio and metadata.

Lately there are several productions, such as Skyfall (Roger Deakins) or The Lone Ranger (Bojan Bozelli), in which their cinematographers are choosing the combination between this Codex Onboard Recorder and the Alexa Studio, with its optical viewfinder and 4:3 sensor (which makes it the only digital camera, besides ARRIFLEX D-21, capable of actually working in anamorphic).

Thanks to Codex’s new high-speed data packages, recorders such as ARRIRAW Plus (ideal for stereoscopy, as it allows recording in two channels) and Onboard are able to record up to 48 frames per second of ARRIRAW in Alexa Studio’s 4:3 mode. In 16:9 mode it is possible to do this up to 60 frames per second using the normal Codex packages, as is already done with Alexa and Alexa Plus.

Codex Digital has also updated its Transfer Station for Mac OS X, which converts files recorded by Codex systems (working with Virtual File System) to a wide range of different formats so you can start working with them. This system is required when working with Codex equipment and the Alexa Studio camera, although the upgrade is not recommended for productions already in progress.

Transfer Station for Mac OS X can only work with Snow Leopard 64 bit operating systems (10.6.2 or 10.6.3).
