Colourlab. AI, the new color grading software

Colourlab AI is the new color correction tool that has arrived on the market with version 1.0 and very interesting development forecasts. Developed by Color Intelligence, Colourlab AI is a new software with a completely new way of approaching color grading where creativity is king and artificial intelligence is the main driver.

The project’s premise is to simplify the technical processes so that the only thing to worry about is creation. Clourlab AI uses artificial intelligence to analyze images using pixel data, process them and apply them to the videos to obtain the desired results. It starts with “automations” to which you can then customize the settings you need. For example, if you want to mimic the look of a photo, what colourlab AI does is analyze it and apply that color correction to your footage. In fact, you can import it into a project from other color correction software, such as DaVinci Resolve and view the corrections and adjust them with the program’s tools.

A software that has raised some controversy and disbelief in the color world by automating a large part of the color grading process. Dado Valentic, the CEO, a colorist with a great track record, defends the project by wanting to offer a more versatile tool to everyone without the need for great technical knowledge, especially now with the demand for HDR where there are great technological barriers.

As for the world of LUTs, colourlab AI has worked so that the artificial intelligence does a special job in establishing a look that matches any type of content. That is, once you have created a look, even a LUT, the program creates a kind of fingerprint in which it records the result of the image so that when it is applied to another image, even if it is recorded with different material, it applies the necessary adjustments so that the result is similar to that obtained in the creation of the look, thus also simplifying the matching process.

Colourlab AI can be integrated with DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro through proxies, as well as Premiere, Avid and Filmlight through CDLs, etc… It is also prepared for cameras such as ARRI, Blackmagic, Canon, Sony, etc… a wide variety of codecs, and to all this we must add what the company has in mind for its next releases.

A free trial of colourlab AI version 1.0 is available for purchase, or you can get a monthly subscription for $99 or an annual subscription for $499.
