Cooke Optics has confirmed that it will be launching new S7/i, Panchro/i Classic and Anamorphic/i Full Frame Plus lenses that will be on test at NAB 2019.
- The Anamorphic/i Full Frame Plus product line, which was already announced at IBC last year for large-format film enthusiasts, will feature four different focal lengths: 40 mm, 50 mm, 75 mm and 100 mm. As early as April, it will start shipping with them on a limited basis although by the end of the year, three more lenses in that range (32 mm, 135 mm and 180 mm) should be available. They will be available with or without Cooke’s special “Flair” coating to correct lens flare. The lenses have an image circle covering 24 mm x 36 mm sensors with 1.8x image compression.
- Also in April, the complete Panchro/i Classic lineup, which includes a 65 mm full-frame Macro lens, will be introduced. The other lenses in that range, including 21 mm, 27 mm, 135 mm and 152 mm versions, are designed to cover a Super 35 image area. These lenses will be shown outside Europe for the first time.
- S7/i full frame spherical lenses in 18mm, 27mm and 180mm versions are expected to arrive later this year.
“The manufacturing team at our Leicester factory continues to work on these new lens ranges, which are made entirely by hand,” said Cooke Optics president Les Zellan.
“We have nine lens ranges at Cooke Optics. We have set ourselves this challenge to meet the ever-increasing demand so we are proud to offer cinematographers a wide variety of styles to help them tell their stories better.”
Cooke also plans to showcase its /i3 metadata system to provide information about the lenses, including the characteristic distortion of each lens, for use in post-production. Sony plans to integrate this /i3 metadata system into the Venice.
