DaVinci Resolve 10 at IBC

Yesterday began the IBC 2013 in Amsterdam, one of the most important annual fairs for the audiovisual sector, where (until September 17) will be announced the latest developments in technology and workflows.

Fortunately Luis Ochoa, director of 709 Media Room, is there testing them first hand and yesterday was able to check out the features added in DaVinci Resolve 10, the new version of Blackmagic Design’s color correction system.

Apart from the improvements already announced at NAB, Luis was able to discover important new features in this update:

  • The first thing we discovered is that when we import a first clip into the “Media Pool”, DaVinci automatically adjusts the resolution of the project with the resolution of this file, in the style of Final Cut Pro 7. In addition to these projects, it is now possible to create folders to keep our material organized.
  • In the project settings we find monitoring presets up to 4K and the distinction between the ACES workflow, the traditional DaVinci workflow and ACES Log.
  • The use of masks has been renewed, allowing the use of several masks in the same node (instead of only one) and gradient masks have been added.
  • With this version comes the ability to use OpenFX plugins, one of the most highlighted during the presentation last April and very requested by some of its users.
  • It is now possible to choose a specific debayering, in order to optimize the real time; and the render type for speed changes.

If after learning about the added features you want to learn how to use DaVinci Resolve, or you want to learn the techniques to create your looks with this system, you may be interested in our DaVinci Resolve and DaVinci Resolve advanced courses, scheduled for October, if the beta version is stable we will teach them with DaVinci Resolve 10.
