¡DaVinci Resolve 11 is here!
Blackmagic Design announced at NAB this major update, which continues to base many of its new features on editing functions.
Edition
So much so that this version comes with more than 70 new editing features, including dual monitor support, more trimming functions (such as the possibility of trimming with JKL), audio fades or fully customizable keyboard shortcuts, which will allow the user to work much faster.
Now, below each clip in the timeline, it is possible to display an integrated keyframe editor and adjust the parameters right there. There are also improvements for transitions, as clicking on any cut in the timeline will display 4 presets with different duration and Cross Dissolves can be edited with the “Film” option to make the effect smoother.
In addition, Open FX plugins can be added and animated directly on the timeline, just as we would do with transitions.
The options for creating titles have also been expanded and the grouping of clips is faster and easier than before.
Finally, regarding integration with Apple, the “round trip” with the Final Cut Pro X editing system has been improved and ProRes encoding and decoding on Linux has been certified.
Color correction
As for color correction, the company has announced that new controls have been added with photographers taking the step into cinematography in mind.
In the “Camera RAW” tab you will find new functions, such as shadow and highlight recovery, mid-tone detail, saturation, lift, gain or contrast.
A rather curious function has also been added, which allows an automatic color balance to be made using a standard color chart as a reference. Thus, after the analysis of the shots, a first base correction is obtained to serve as a starting point, even if the shots have been recorded with different exposures and color temperatures.
On-set
It seems that Blackmagic does not want to lag behind in features that affect DITs. That’s why another important tool in version 11 is the cloning tool. With it, we will be able to make copies of hard disks, memory cards or folders to multiple destinations simultaneously.
All these copies are verified with cheksum, ensuring that they will be exactly the same as the source material.
Collaboration workflow
An important new feature is only available in the full version of DaVinci. This is the new collaborative workflow, with which several users connected from different systems will be able to see the changes made in editing, metadata or color correction instantly.
DaVinci Resolve 11 will be available starting in June and will be a free upgrade for all users. In the video above you can see some of the new features mentioned above in action.
And don’t forget that the next HD Color Correction and DaVinci Resolve courses will be held in May.
